Feb. 19, 2010: The 107th American International Toy Fair took place last week at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, and it’s safe to say that four days just isn’t enough time to cover the entire show floor. From the Toy of the Year awards to licensing, new releases, and more, you inevitably hop in the cab on the last day feeling like one more day could’ve helped.
This year Toy Fair went green. Much of the printed materials handed out at the show in year’s past were available to attendees on SmartPhones and PDAs, so it’s true, we were all glued to our mobile devices half the time. Virtual tote bags, a virtual press office…and that’s the beginning. Times are changing. Here’s the scoop:
- Based on the ever-popular storybook character, Jakks Pacific’s new 18-inch Fancy Nancy doll was bound to be a hit upon release.
- Robert Tonner was in attendance at Toy Fair to announce the release of some fantastic new characters based on Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Twilight's New Moon—and no one can resist a peek at the Sinister Circus series while at the booth either.
- There’s plenty to report on from KidsGive’s Karito Kids this year. Not only do these dolls continue to raise awareness about charity and kindness, but brand new outfits for each of the original dolls, new soft Travel Charmers complete with Caring Charm bracelets, new outfits that are sold separately were also all the talk at this booth.
- Manhattan Toy continues the success of its Groovy Girls lines with new introductions like the Flutterflies soft dolls as well as its new larger-sized cloth Lilydolls.
- You won’t want to miss The Doll Maker & Friends’ new teeny tiny Precious Moments dolls!
- Charisma Brands showcased plenty of new dolls, like the adorable Mop Top Adora Belle dolls and I’m a Little Bit Country Marie and I’m a Little Bit Rock and Roll Donny dolls
- What’s more, as Toy Fair wrapped up, the TIA accepted toy donations Haitian children, as well as for the Toy Bank, a year-round product donation program.
